On the whole, there's very little to dislike. The template builder could be a little easier to use when manually drawing new fields, especially for more complex field types. Also, while the Document AI feature is a great starting point, the automatic field labeling could be more accurate to reduce the time we spend on manual corrections. The translation feature in Anvil seems problematic. It relies on automated translation, which can result in inaccuracies, especially for Spanish-speaking clients receiving English forms instead of translated versions. I have used many other PDF manipulation solutions, and Anvil blows them away easily. I am on the API user side, and the libraries they have built to interact with the product are very easy to understand and to use. With a little front-loaded effort, you can easily identify all fields and rename them for consistency and control over documents that you may not have created (and thus are not responsible for the poor configuration of fields therein).

It's fairly easy to integrate e-sign into your workflows, and they can either handle all of the steps via email and their own forms, or you can embed them into your applications.

Finally, the support team is amazing and responsive. The few questions I have had since I began using Anvil have been addressed quickly and concisely. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There is a rather large paywall when it comes to custom workflows, which could have worked for my solution but not for the price. At the moment it requires the Enterprise plan which can run $10-20k with a 12 month contract. This may not be crazy high given what it can do, but being pre-revenue this is out of the question for my organization currently.

They are very good with allowing free test/dev access to the API, but just not for this custom workflow business. I understand they have to make money, but they could've hooked me into the enterprise plan, instead of me basically building my own custom workflow with the API. We've tested almost every eSign provider (especially ones with advanced dev / embedded capabilities eg PandaDoc / HelloSign / DocuSign) and Anvil is easily best-in-class. The developer experience was super fast and they've thought of almost every edge case in terms of customization. Anvil's CEO has personally called my cell twice to help us get onboarded and fully integrated within ~72 hours, totally world-class onboarding UX.
